The Black Key

By Amy Ewing.

Genre. Teen fiction.

Series. The Lone City (#3)

For too long, Violet and the people of the outer circles of the Lone City have lived in service to the royalty of the Jewel. But now the secret society known as the Black Key is preparing to seize power.
And while Violet knows she is at the center of this rebellion, she has a more personal stake in it—her sister, Hazel, has been taken by the Duchess of the Lake. Now, after fighting so hard to escape the Jewel, Violet must do everything in her power to return to save not only Hazel, but the future of the Lone City.

The third and final novel of the Lone City series in a fantastic end to the series, the plot of the series has thickened and expanded into something much bigger than the original plot. Not only has the story expanded but it is also now filled with so much more action and power, the ending of this series is a fantastic end. The build up of this story from book 1 to book 3 is incredible, you start this book off with a girl that is fragile, easily controlled and doesn’t see the big life picture; but the series ends with a strong, fierce woman who not only becomes a warrior but helps other fragile girls become strong warriors too.

This novel seems like a random book to be inspired by but I really loved it because it was women based, it was women suppressing other women. Women from the previous generation controlling and manipulating young girls, but these girls became strong and overpowered the women controlling their fate. This novel is amazing for young girls as it shows them that they don’t have to be suppressed or told what to do by the older women in their lives (mum’s, grandmothers, teachers) but they can control what they become and how they live their lives. The Lone City series is a fantastic fantasy series but it also an inspiring book for young women, something that gives them confidence and inspiration.
